Social Media Policy

The Credit Union has created a page on Facebook, YouTube, and other Social Media outlets, as a way to interact with members, foster a sense of community, hold promotions and contests, and discuss topics related to Credit Union products and services. The Credit Union also follows our internal policies related to member security and information. We are committed to a transparent and honest social media flow, and will not create "fake" destinations and posts designed to mislead followers and control a conversation. Every website, "fan page", or other online destination that is ultimately controlled by the Credit Union will make that fact known to users and must be authorized by the Credit Union.

Members should always be aware they are on a social networking site, and that the social networking site may have different privacy standards than the Credit Union. The Credit Union cannot be held responsible for aspects of the social network outside of its control. The Credit Union encourages all members to review the Social Networking Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policies of each site, and to learn other Social Networking tips (provided below).

Member and non-member participation is welcomed as a means of sharing experiences, suggesting improvements, and contributing to conversations. In order to maintain the integrity of the Credit Union, and protect our members’ information, the following terms of use regarding our social media presence have been established:

  • All comments will be reviewed and posts that are derogatory, defamatory, obscene, hateful, ethnic, off topic, spam, personal attacks, illegal, offensive, or those that are private or confidential, or any comment that is deemed to be inappropriate will be removed. The Credit Union maintains the sole responsibility of judgment for these items.
  • Posts must be in text format from someone over age 13.
  • Posts from members with photos will not be accepted unless specifically requested by an authorized representative for a contest or other business-related purpose. In these instances, pictures will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate.
  • Posts or comments intending to sell a product or service not deriving from official Credit Union personnel or those intending to divert traffic to a particular website for personal or monetary gain will not be permitted, this includes Spam.
  • All comments are monitored, but not controlled or edited. At our sole discretion the Credit Union reserves the right to remove a post we deem inappropriate. We do not endorse any comments made by its employees, unless they are an authorized and designated representative of the Credit Union.
  • Financially-sensitive information will never be requested through a social media page. Members should not disclose information, such as account usernames and numbers, passwords, pins, social security numbers, or account details through social media. Please inform us immediately at 408.524.4500 if you receive such a request through the Credit Union’s social media site.
  • At times, and related to promotions, sweepstakes, or postings, the Credit Union might utilize a third party company for the specific use of developing a promotion or posting information or an article through a Social Networking site. Third-party companies may not be bound by the same privacy policy as the Credit Union. In these instances, the Credit Union will perform due diligence to ensure the reputation and operation of the third party company or application. Members should be aware that Social Networking sites and third-party applications may review member profiles or other information outside of Credit Union control when the member has opted in or allowed them to do so. We will provide disclosure related to every promotion and include whether the Credit Union used a third-party application to develop the Social Networking promotion.
  • Should a member want to participate in a promotion or sweepstakes with the Credit Union but not participate through the Social Networking site, they may send a 3x5 index card including their name, address, email address, telephone number, and birth date that identifies what promotion in which they wish to be included. They should mail the card to Marketing, PremierOne Credit Union, 6640 Via Del Oro, San Jose, CA 95119 during the promotion period. The Credit Union is not responsible for any lost, stolen or damaged entries. See the official rules of each promotion for more details.

All entrants will have the opportunity to opt-in to receive informative monthly emails from the Credit Union. The birth date is required to validate age-restrictions based on Federal or State law surrounding sweepstakes. This information will not be made public through the Credit Union page or site, and will remain proprietary information. Members should be aware that if this information is provided through a Social Networking site, their information may be viewed by the Social Networking site or third-party company if they give permission or allow them to do so.
  • Except for posting winner names as related to, or identified with, giveaways, contests, or other promotions, the Credit Union will not post identifiable member information on the page.

 Security InformationInformaIn

Beware of Vishing, Smishing, and Phishing: The latest attempts to gain your information include mobile phone text messages whereby you must call a phone number and provide confidential information.

Voice phishing is the criminal practice of using social engineering over the telephone system to gain access to private personal and financial information from the public for the purpose of financial reward. Unless you contacted an institution directly, you do not know who is on the other end of the line. Never submit confidential information by phone or voicemail if you are not the one who initiated the call.

For example, if you receive a text that says "Dear credit union bank customer, we regret that we have had to lock out access to your account. Please call 901.562.1204 to access your account." If you respond, an automated response may request your credit card number. This is referred to as “Vishing” because the fraudsters are Voice Phishing for your information. Whether by mobile phone or email, do not call and leave confidential information on a message or provide this information if you did not initiate the request.

SMiShing is short for "SMS phishing." SMiShing is a security attack in which the user is tricked into downloading a Trojan horse, virus or other malware onto his cellular phone or other mobile device. Once the software is installed it can give the criminals control of your device and access to your data.

For example, if you receive a mobile text that says "Dear credit union/bank customer, we regret to inform you that you have been locked out of your account. Please click here to access your account." When you click the link the software is installed on your device and the device becomes compromised.

Suspicious phone calls, emails, or mail that request a response or action to contact an institution or individual where you would provide account number, personal information or a password.

Remember that legitimate institutions will never contact you and ask for your account or confidential information. If you receive a response like this about your account at PremierOne Credit Union, end the conversation and contact the credit union directly at: 1(408)524-4500 or 1(855)500-7128. NEVER respond to any request like this unless you initiated the request yourself.
